IMPULSIVE - You might be going along in life, managing just fine, and all at once a stray thought comes to mind. You push it away, but it comes back. That's the impulsive part.
OBSESSIVE - Next you begin to entertain the thought and before long you can't think about anything else. An obsession is born as you plan how, when, where, and with whom to indulge your excessive appetites.
COMPULSIVE - When you act on it, no matter how many good reason you have not to, the compulsion kicks in and willpower goes on vacation. You either can't control the amount, or you can't stop at all once you start.
