Are you a fan of quick weight-loss diets?
Did you know that every time the weight bounces back (and it does in 95% of the cases) it looks different because you likely lost muscle and added fat. The first few times, you probably didn't notice the drop in metabolism or any significant difference in the amount of effort it took to lose the last 5 pounds.
Eventually, though, our bodies outsmart us. With each round of restrictive eating and over-exercising, our bodies change the game. Setpoint is that weight your body likes and can effortlessly maintain. Look at a picture of you 10 or 20 years ago when you 'thought' you were fat. Compare it to your image now and you can see what I mean. With each rapid loss and regain, your body raises the setpoint and it doesn't come back down all the way. OUCH!
The more you threaten to starve your body or beat it into submission with grueling exercise, the less you honor yourself. And the more your body perfects its ability to insure your survival by making you damn uncomfortable. It can outlast your willpower. Trust me.
So next time you're heading for that crash diet, step away from the crack pipe and see what's really eating you. Perhaps try a kinder, gentler approach by loving and listening to body wisdom. It whispers when you fire the Food Police.
