Chronic dieters, however, are uncomfortable without a hard and fast set of rules to live by: touch not, taste not, want not. We want the dream every diet promises but we travel the valleys of despair most of our lives. From oasis to oasis. It looks something like this:
Change happens when you decide that the pain of where you are is greater than the fear of where you're going.
Resistance begins when your ego tries to keep you safe by making excuses about why it won't work or why it doesn't apply to you. ("You don't have enough time, money, patience, willpower. You've never been able to stick with anything before. You don't need them, you can do it on your own.")
Panic occurs when you reach the upper limits of your comfort zone. It is that last chance to change your mind and go back to playing small instead of breaking through to your best self and living the life of your dreams.
Success is the benefit of feeling the fear and doing it anyway. From the other side of the challenge, you can look back and see that the panic wasn't real. It was an illusion. A misguided attempt to keep you from being, doing and having all that God intended for you.
