I heard about a new diet this week – the one day diet. The idea is that you can do anything for one day if you really put your mind to it, right? So one day you eat their prepackaged frankenfoods – bars, shakes, snacks. Then the next day you eat whatever you want. Then back to doing anything for one day. Then another day of free-for-all.
Ha! Anybody with a food addiction or sugar sensitivity is going to find themselves face-first in a pie by the end of the week. Trust me.
I recently read a study that explained what happens with willpower. It’s like manna used to be in the bible – limited supply each day. The more white-knuckling you do in the morning, the sooner your strength to resist temptation will be depleted. That’s why diets don’t work.
Instead of being transformed from the inside, which involves a change of heart, change of mind, and true change of viewpoint, you keep trying to force yourself into some ideal mold that doesn’t fit but seems like it should.
