I met this woman today in her obituary. Norma Jean Bauerschmidt is my hero, my mentor, my role model.
Two days after her husband of 67 years died, Norma was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Her response to the young doctor explaining her exhaustive treatment options of surgery, radiation, chemo was priceless.
"A tiny woman at 101 pounds and under five-feet tall, an exhausted Norma looked the young doctor dead in the eye and with the strongest voice she could muster, said, “I’m 90-years-old, I’m hitting the road.”
So she spent the last year of her life LIVING every day instead of waiting to die or losing herself piece by piece along the way.
Now that's a legacy worth leaving. Kudos to her son and daughter-in-law who documented that journey and celebrated with her every step of the way!
