There is a Solution
The way it works for others doesn't have to be the way it works for you. So don't be too hard on yourself if you've already tried a lot of other things like prayer groups, or 12-step meetings, homeopathic remedies, or treatment centers. That was then and this is now.
What drives our addiction is that it either makes us feel better, or numbs us out so we don't feel as bad. The problem is that, over time, we develop tolerance to the mood-altering substance, person or event. It takes more and more to get the same relief, and the life-damaging consequences begin to pile up before we know it.
It is called self-medication. Inside of every addict is buried pain. It may have been buried alive with our childhood dreams and fears before we were old enough to decide what to keep. By removing the drug of choice, we can better see how to build a sustainable solution that won't lead to relapse or merely switching addictions.
How many times have you seen someone quit drinking or drugs, and pick up smoking or donuts?
There is a biochemical connection between what we put in our mouths and the 'feel good' chemicals released in the brain. If we stopped with merely a physical solution, then we'd be like those white-knuckled members counting days of sobriety who are as addicted to meetings as they ever were to the drug itself.
At some level, you already know this. It's not your fault, it's just that nobody has put it all together in one easy-to-understand package for you before.
I have been in your shoes - first as an avid do-it-your-selfer, then as a parishioner, then client, then sponsor, then professional. I've taken what works from a variety of disciplines and put them into step-by-step guidelines to meet you where you are and take you to where - and who - you want to be!
